Review 9/1/2009
"selling practices you think are deceptive or otherwise improper" Just read the review about the credit score and financing falling through scam. The did the EXACT same thing to us. Unfortunately we didn't know better. PLEASE READ THIS ALL THE WAY THROUGH. THIS COMPANY HAS AN 'F' RATING FOR A REASON. This is what happened next... DON'T BUY FROM VOLVO OF DOWNTOWN LA!!! Asked if the car had been in an accident and he (Alex) said no. Looked at the carfax (have a copy) and there is nothing reported on that document. Bought the car (Used Nissan Versa) last Thursday (July 30, 2009) and found out that same night that something was wrong with the front left blinker. It wasn't working. Then found out that all the lights on the front left weren't working and took it to the local Nissan dealer since it's still under factory warranty and close. I noticed that the paint on the hood looked odd as I was inspecting the light. I asked the Nissan service person (Universal City Nissan) and she said there had been body work done. They called back in a couple of hours and said the car had been in an accident and they need to do a full diagnostic to find out the problem which will cost $290.00 (and not covered under warranty. We contacted the Volvo dealer and they have been giving us the run around and they are refusing to pay. We put $3,000 in cash down on the car. All the lights on the front left were out. All the paperwork said, "No accident." We think the damage happened on their lot while in their possession and they tried to cover it up. UPDATE: 8/10/09 Finally the volvo dealership verbally agreed to pay for Nissan to diagnose the car, but when it came down to it, Volvo again refused. SO, we had to go down to the Volvo dealership because they stopped returning our calls. We enlisted the help of a friend who works at another dealership in town and I immediately contacted a lemon law lawyer. When we get to the dealership the general manager who "hadn't been in all day" was miraculously sitting at his desk. We sat down and he immediately says, "I'll happily undo the deal. I don't want any trouble. We didn't know anything about an accident." Does this sound like an innocent man to you? Well that's good news for us right? Wrong. The GM wanted us to bring the car in for the Volvo service department to look at and we did. Note: we asked to see the pre sale safety checklist and the service guy disappeared for five minutes and came back with a general form that he obviously just wrote and checked off. Now get this. These guys took the car to the Nissan dealer downtown! The next day the service guy, James, calls and says the car is fixed and ready to go. Excuse me James???? You were given the car to confirm that it had been in an accident, not to fix it and give it back to us. James says, "Oh, let me call you back." James quickly calls back and says, "You will have to speak to the GM from now on." Guess who's never in the office again. If this sounds ridiculous and impossible, it only gets better. Now to say that I'm angry at this point would be a major understatement, but I haven't lost my temper and although I'm not pleasant, I keep it under control until... GM NEVER calls us back. I call and call until I finally tell the sales guy that I will call his cell phone every hour on the hour until I get a call back. Well I call the office an hour later and guess who picks up the phone...yes the GM. I tell him that we will be in tomorrow to unwind the deal. He agrees and says, "See you at 1pm." Guess who's nowhere to be found at 1pm? We are told he won't be in at all today. Alex says that the GM told him to take care of it. That's fine with me as long as we get our money back. Now remember that we put 3,000 cash down on the car. Alex says that he doesn't know when we will get that money back. Cut to Rob losing his temper. This guy says that we need to call our bank to figure that out. He takes my girls debit card and says, "I'm just going to run a credit." Now any genius knows that if I take 3,000 dollars cash and put it in my bank account it will show up at the latest, the next day. He doesn't know? Now I told Alex not to run that card until he told us when we were going to get our money back. Alex said, "I'm just going to run the card." Alex started walking away with the card and I said, "curse word-curse word put that card down!" He dropped that card like a hot rock. I would like to think he complied because I cursed and yelled, but it may have something to do with being 6'6"....who knows. All I know is this guy has no integrity. Should I have cursed at him? NO. Would I do it again in the same situation? Probably. I'm working on this part of my personality. Anywhooo... My girlfriend goes to their machine, calls the number ON THE MACHINE THAT HAS THEIR BANK INFO ON IT!, and gets the info herself. That's why I love her. Well, one reason. UPDATE: 8/22/09 The money posted after we had purchased the next car (thank God for us having savings accounts). What did we learn other than the people at Volvo of Downtown LA have no integrity? Have a car checked even if you are buying from a dealer. This letter doesn't even begin to describe the pain we went through with these guys, but I hope it's enough to deter people from ever buying a car there in the future. My girlfriend has a car (a Nissan Versa that we got from Honda of Hollywood) and everything is okay. What a pain this whole experience was. NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH VOLVO OF DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES!!! UPDATE: 8/24/09 We saw the car for sale again. Volvo was trying to sell it on Kelly Blue Book as a Certified Car. We immediately contacted Kelly Blue Book and told them the scoop. Here is the VIN number just in case: Nissan Versa 3N1BC11E88L362613 Carfax still lists it as "no accident damage reported to carfax" even after we contacted carfax and left this: "Bought this car from Volvo Dealer on March 30, 2009 and returned it on April 6, 2009 because we found out it was in an accident. The dealer did not disclose the info. Left side frontal accident. The hood had been painted and body work done. The dealer swore they didn't know, but the paper trail only points to them. This car has been in an accident. The hood has been painted and bodywork done." This is an exact quote from the comments section of the Carfax for that Nissan Versa. Be wary of Carfax. My friend that this was odd and he put in the VIN for his car (that has been in six accidents to date) and guess what? That’s right. His car was listed with “No accidents.” UPDATE: Just did a google search for the car and it looks like they sold it from their lot. I hope this info gets to the right person. The same owner owns Honda of downtown LA.
