My wife has been buying things from their online store for a while. They do a special promotion, the French Flea Market, for their mailing list. They advertise it for a specific date, scheduled to be available at 6pm that day, and indicating that it is things limited or unique in their inventory. It usually goes online later than they say, but usually within the hour, so if you plan on shopping their catalog, prepare for a wait. Since the time is after their business hours, they only take orders over the web. Twice my wife has selected items in her shopping list, checked out, and gotten the receipt that she has bought those items, only to find the items missing when the package shows up, with a claim they were out of stock.
My complaint to the company about the first instance was met with the explanation that somehow someone had ordered the items by phone before they were actually available. They tried to make that right by offering my wife a chance to buy something before it was made available next time. We accepted that, and bought an item that way.
When the next French Flea Market came around, the same thing happened. This time the explanation was that their software couldn't distinguish that an item had been sold in an earlier transaction. I explained to the representative that atomic transactions are standard especially in shopping cart software, and that they are designed to prevent exactly the described problem. If these people can't hire a computer person who's qualified to provide a standard web shopping cart, then I will no longer patronize them, and I urge others to patronize them at their own risk. The online shopping experience is unreliable at best.
